Presently, a Senior Research Fellow (University Grants Commission) at the International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS) (Deemed University), Mumbai, India, Ms. Parul Puri, is a Biostatistician by background and a demographer by training. She completed her Masters in Health Statistics, Division of Biostatistics, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi in the 2016. During 2016, she received a Government of India (GoI) fellowship to pursue one-year Masters of Population Studies (MPS) from IIPS. Furthermore, in January 2017, she cleared the University Grants Commission (UGC)-National Eligibility Test (NET) along with the prestigious Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) to pursue research in the field of Social Science and Humanities in India.
For the past five years, Ms. Parul Puri has been actively working in the field of Public Health, with a specialization in chronic disease burden in India. These research works were majorly focused on exploring the progression, mortality and survival-related issues linked with various communicable and non-communicable diseases at national and sub-national levels across India. These works utilized various techniques and concepts based on the life table approach and traditional and non-traditional models in the time-to-event analysis. For her doctoral thesis, Parul is exploring the linkages between multi-morbidity with various dimensions of health.
Parul Puri has received a couple of laureates in her name for outstanding academic achievements, which include the prestigious Banaras Hindu University (BHU) Gold Medal (2017), Dr. C. Chandrashekharan Gold Medal (2017), and IIPS Gold Medal (2018). Additionally, she has received a research fellowship from the International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU) in 2018 and funding from Statistics Korea–United Nations Population Fund (KOSTAT-UNFPA) in 2019. She has also published her research findings in journals like Nature, Scientific Reports, Journal of Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders, Journal of Clinical Epidemiology and Global Health, Journal of Public Health and, BMC Pulmonary Medicine. She is presently a regular reviewer for the renowned journals like PloS One, International Journal of Public Health-Springer Nature, and Journal of Public Health- Springer Nature.
